Pay equity audit

After the pay equity plan has been implemented, the Pay Equity Act foresees a periodically  pay equity audit. The pay equity audit insure to maintain that predominantly female job classes within the enterprise always receive a remuneration equal to the predominantly male job classes of equivalent value. According to the Pay Equity Act, the employer is responsible to proceed in his enterprise at the pay equity audit. In addition, the Pay Equity Act allowed the employer to conduct alone the pay equity audit.

The Act modifying the Pay Equity Act, approved on May 28, 2009, introduces new modifications for pay equity audit and imposed the employer to proceed at the pay equity audit in a specific time delay. When a pay equity plan has been completed in an enterprise before March 12, 2009, the first pay equity audit must be completed at the latest December 31, 2010.

In agreement with the deadlines prescribe by the Act, the government must post the audit results for all tree pay equity plans completed in 2006 for all employees in the health and social services sector, school boards and colleges sector and public service sector.

Each posting must include a summary of the pay equity audit process, a list of the events leading to compensation adjustments, a list of the predominantly female job classes that are entitled to compensation adjustments, the percentage of the compensation adjustment to be paid, the posting date and information on the rights exercisable by the employees concerned by the pay equity audit and the time within which they may be exercised.
